Kia Carens announced as the winner of the Indian Car of the Year Award 2023
Indian Car of the Year (ICOTY) is one of the prestigious awards in the automotive industry and a panel comprising 18 automobile journalists announced the winner today. Kia Carens MPV was awarded the Indian Car of the Year 2023 award. Kia Carens MPV was launched in the market early last year. The MPVs are based on the same platform as their popular mid-size SUV, the Seltos. Although it looks very different from that. Other contenders for the prestigious award included cars like Skoda Slavia, Mahindra Scorpio N and Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara.
The Kia Carens was launched in 2022 with an aim to attract buyers who are looking for an MPV that is comfortable, spacious and also offers premium features. Price was also a factor. The Toyota Innova Crysta that was available at that time had carved a niche for itself but was getting costlier every year. On the other hand, we had MPVs like the Ertiga and XL6 but they didn’t offer as many features as other manufacturers. Kia has managed to find the perfect niche and offer customers comfort, features and value for money. This is one of the reasons why it has become a popular choice among the buyers within no time. Kia Carens prices now start at Rs 10.20 lakh, ex-showroom and go up to Rs 18.45 lakh, ex-showroom.
Kia is offering premium features like leatherette upholstery, captain seats, automatic climate control, roof mounted AC vents, electric sunroof, digital instrument cluster, touchscreen infotainment screen, ventilated front seats, wireless phone charging, multi-drive modes, cruise control etc. Kia is offering the Carens with both petrol and diesel engine options. There is a 1.5-litre, naturally aspirated petrol engine that produces 115 Ps and 144 Nm of peak torque. This engine is available with a 6-speed manual gearbox option. The 1.5L turbocharged diesel engine generates 115 Ps and 250 Nm of peak torque. This engine is available with 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmission. Like the Seltos, the Cairns also comes with a 1.4L turbocharged petrol engine option. This engine generates 140 PS and 242 Nm of peak torque. Kia is offering this engine with 6-speed manual and 7-speed DCT gearbox options.
The Kia Carens is available in a total of 19 variants and just like the Seltos, it is a Made in India product. Kia attended the Auto Expo this year and the manufacturer made two unveils this year. Kia showcased the fourth generation Kia Carnival which they now call the KA4 for some reason. The Carnival MPV sold in the Indian market is actually the third generation car and the fourth generation Carnival has been on sale internationally for the last few years. Apart from the KA4, Kia also showcased the EV9 concept at the Auto Expo 2023. It will be the flagship electric SUV from the brand, which is likely to go into production by the end of 2023.
